I Am, You Are: Thoughts On A Past Relationship

I am a sail boat
You are an anchor
I am designed to sail
You held me back
I am a bird
You are a cage
I was made to fly
You kept me locked up tight
I am a runner
You are a gun
Once you rang loud and clear
I was gone
Google Images
This was a poem I recently wrote about a brief relationship I was in. He seemed very interested in me, but our lives were going in very different directions. I have a passion for traveling and a desire to live in another country. He, however, had no intention of leaving the state let alone the country. For awhile I told myself that things will just work out, some how. I was afraid that if this relationship didn't work there may never be another guy who likes me. I was wrong, and I know that now. But at the time it was a big fear of mine. I thought that maybe if he got a glimpse at what it is like to travel and visit other countries he would fall in love with it like I have.

That however was not the case. He told me that we could travel for a year or so, but then come back to America and just live here. To him it was a great idea, a perfect compromise. But to me, it was an awful idea. I felt trapped, held back from everything I wanted in life. But I didn't say anything. I was still hoping that things would work out.

He finally cut things off with me because he saw himself having a future with another girl and not me. Practically his exact words, through text. Real classy, I know. Besides the immediate sadness that comes with any breakup, I felt a rush of relief. I was free. I didn't have to worry about being held back from what I am truly passionate about and what I feel is my calling in life.

There are many times when I wish this dumb little relationship didn't even happen. But looking back I realize I have learned so much from this:
  1. I shouldn't hold onto something that is dead. This relationship was destined to fail from day one and I knew that. But I held onto it hoping that something would change.
  2. Don't let people hold you back from doing what you are passionate about. Don't compromise all of your happiness for someone else.
  3. There are so many other fish in the sea. Don't get hung up if the first one or even the first hundred aren't the right one. You do you and eventually you will look over and see someone doing them. And it just so happens that you are swimming in the same direction. Yay for confusing fish and youth group analogies..

10 Things I Learned My Sophomore Year

Last year around this time I made a post about 15 things my freshman year taught me. It was a lot of fun to look back at the school year and reflect on what I learned that year, besides all the obvious academic learning.. I thought I would make another reflective post this year, but 10 things rather than 15.
So here it goes, 10 things that I learned during my sophomore year of college:

1. Roommates. From my experience this year, living with roommates is a lot easier if you are already really good friends going into it. By being friends you tend to be more laid back around each other especially when it comes to any dorm/apartment/house rules. My roommates and I share basically everything and it's great. We trust each other to respect our things and give them back when we are done. Clothing was definitely the most popular thing that we shared. I swear my roommates wore my clothes more than I did.

Halloween with the best roommates a girl could ask for: Sam, Jill, and Virginia

2. Procrastination. Waiting until the last possible moment is never ever ever a good idea. Even if you are lucky and finish the assignment on time, procrastinating adds a lot of unneeded stress. College is stressful enough as it is, so there is absolutely no reason to add anymore to it!

3. Relationships. If your roommate gets a boyfriend/girlfriend, you will either see them more than you want to and get sick of couples, which is very likely. Or you will never see them. You mine as well have one less roommate... Wait what roommate?? It can definitely be challenging when your roommate is in a relationship but it's important to remember that it is hard for them too. They are trying to figure out how to split their time so they can spend time with you and him/her. Patience and communication are really important!

4. Workouts. I think it is safe to say that we all know working out is important. But finding a time to actually work out is very challenging. What I learned is to not try to cram in a workout, instead make time in your day for one. I get up a little earlier, work out and then get ready for my day. I choose to workout in the mornings because I know that if I wait I will give excuses as to why I can't workout. For example, I have too much homework, I have to go to work, I just got done with work and I'm too tired. Getting up in the morning is definitely not easy, but having a work out buddy or buddies makes it a lot more bearable. Plus working out with other people helps holds you accountable and encourages you to keep going.

5. Hints. If you are hoping someone will take a hint... they probably won't. I tend to not necessarily come out and say things directly, how very passive aggressive Minnesotan of me, I know. I'll often hope that from the little I've given them they will take the hint, but they never do. So just be straight forward with people, it saves everyone a lot of time.

6. Mornings. Going off of number 4, it's important to start your day out right, not rushed. Freshman year I found myself constantly waking up RIGHT before class, throwing random clothes on and rushing out the door. This year, well second semester, I started waking up early to work out. I know that isn't for everyone and a lot of people aren't "morning people". I wasn't a morning person before this year, either. But for me, mornings became one of my favorite parts of the day. I'd wake up, go work out for half an hour, shower, eat breakfast (which I used to not do), and relax until I had to leave for class. It is really nice starting your day in a peaceful, not rushed way. Try it sometime.

7. Classes. Do not, I repeat, DO NOT stress over acing every single class. You are going to come across classes that seem impossible to pass, you will feel overwhelmed and as if there is no hope. Sometimes instead of trying to get an A in a class you just have to focus on PASSING it. I don't mean that you shouldn't try to do well, and just get by with passing grades, but it is okay to not ace every class especially if it is a class you are really struggling in. I was definitely that student in school who worked really hard to have good grades. I wanted straight A's. For the most part I did with great ease. But once I got to college I realized it was a whole different ball game and I was thrown out into left field totally unprepared. I have had a lot of classes that I have struggled through, barely making it. But I made it. So stop worrying and don't give up.

8. Online Classes. Online classes are the devil. Okay maybe not the devil... But I wouldn't advise taking 3 online classes in one semester because you will probably end up dropping one of them and wishing you dropped a second one. For some people online classes are perfect. Whether they work full time and want to go back to school so they take a few online classes, or they take one or two online classes in the summer when they don't really have anything else going on. But when you are a full time student with 17 credits, work two jobs and have 3 online classes that are demanding the kind of time and devotion as if that class is the only thing you do in life, it gets really stressful and overwhelming. I would suggest that if you have to take an online class only take one or two at a time.

9. New Things. As a freshman it is basically your job to try new things and meet new people. But as a sophomore, it gets a little harder. You have already made some friends and visited local restaurants and explored the town. But don't let that keep you from continuing to meet new people and try new things. Trust me, you haven't seen it all and you don't know everyone... unless you're Kendra, then you know everyone. (Love you Kendra, if you are even reading this.)

These goofballs made this year so much better: Cole, Emily, Jill, Virginia, and Shah
10. Roommate dates. College can be so busy sometimes that you hardly see the other people you live with, so its good to make an effort to plan something just one on one with them once a month. Personally, I love getting some Ben and Jerry's ice cream and then watching a movie together. Other options I really like are baking/cooking, or basically anything that involves food, and doing something outside like going for a bike ride. I try to plan things that are either super cheap or free, because lets face it college students, no matter how many jobs they have, are poor.

Overall, this was an amazing year. I couldn't have asked for better people to have been surrounded by. I am truly, truly blessed. Cannot wait to see what next year has in store. Bring it on!

Mom's Birthday Surprise!

This Easter I wasn't going to be able to come home because I had to work at my campus' pool. However, the pool was closed for the weekend since it's Easter. So I had the privilege of surprising my mom on her birthday. She had no idea.

Here is my video of the full surprise, hope you enjoy!

Music Monday: It's Been Awhile, So Six Songs?!

Google Images
So, it's kinda been awhile. I was going to post a few weeks back but I hadn't discovered any new music. I was still listening to the same stuff that comprised some of my previous Music Monday posts and I didn't want to repeat all of the songs. But never fear, this week I have all knew songs and since I missed a few weeks I have six songs for you rather than just five.

And like always, you can click here for my Music Monday playlist which is updated with each week's new selection of songs. Click here for my March 2015 playlist on Spotify. :)

Here is this weeks Music Monday picks:

Google Images
1. Sleep Baby Sleep by Broods

This song... *insert praise hands emoji* I love the haunting feel that this song encompasses. It is eerily beautiful and I love that. This song is great to listen to when you're about to go to bed or when you're just relaxing. It has a very calming effect, I think. If you like this song, I can garentee you will enjoy other music by Broods. They are incredibly talented and I think this song shows that.

Google Images
2. See You Again by Wiz Khalifa ft. Charlie Puth

I'll be honest, Wiz Khalifa isn't my first choice of music to listen to, let alone obsess over. However, this song, featuring Youtube singer Charlie Puth, is simply beautiful. This song is in the upcoming movie, Furious 7. As you listen to the lyrics you get a sense of who this song is about, the late Paul Walker. For those who may not know, Paul Walker was one of the stars of the Fast & Furious movies and he was killed in a car accident last year. There are many lyrics in this song that reference the heartbreak the cast felt when hearing the news. "It's been a long day without you my friend, and I'll tell you all about it when I see you again. We've come a long way from where we began, oh I'll tell you all about it when I see you again". Again, simply beautiful.

Google Images
3. Fight Song by Rachel Platten

So many relatable lines in this song. One of my favorites is the last line of the chorus, "I've still got a lot of fight left in me". Talk about inspirational and empowering.. LOVE IT! This is by far my new favorite song to blast while working out. Honestly I could probably put this song on repeat and listen to just this one song my entire work out and be completely content. It encourages you to not give up, to keep fighting, and to not let life's struggles keep you from doing what you want to do. "This is my fight song, take back my fight song".

Google Images
4. Better Off Dead by Sleeping With Sirens

Like I have said before, expect to see Sleeping With Sirens on here a lot. A few weeks ago they released their new album Madness. So of course I bought it. This is one of my favorites from the new album, although picking a favorite is near impossible since I love all of them. Last week I was watching an interview where Kellin Quinn (the lead singer) explained the meaning behind this song and why he wrote it. He said that he wrote this song because so many of their fans have come up to them saying that their music helped them through some really dark moments. This song was for all of their fans, and anyone really, who has been through dark times and felt alone or that their lives are worthless. "How come no one heard her when she said, 'Maybe I'm better off dead, if I was would it finally be enough to shut out all those voices in my head.'" I think this is a really important song. I think depression and suicide are topics that need to be talked about more and not covered, concealed or hidden.

Google Images
5. No Parallels by Hands Like Houses

And now for a song about happiness and feeling completely free. This song feels like one of those that you would blast in the car, windows down, singing at the top of your lungs as the sun is setting and you are driving around with no destination in mind with your friends. Why? Because you can. I just overall really enjoy this song.

Google Images
6. Little Do You Know by Alex & Sierra

Now for that special sixth song. I first heard this song about 4 days ago and instantly fell in love with it. Alex & Sierra won the third and final season of The X Factor USA. It takes a lot of talent to win a show like that and I think this song shows just how amazing they really are. Plus, this adorable real life couple's chemistry radiates throughout this song. It is probably one of the cutest songs I have heard in a really long time. Also the music video.... just watch the music video and if that doesn't convince you of how precious this song is I don't know what will.

What songs are you obsessing over this week? Let me know in the comments below.

Phone Anxiety

Right now I should be dialing the number on this piece of paper to introduce myself to my mentor teacher. As an education major, we have numerous placements in classrooms and for those placements we are given a sheet of paper that has the name and address of the school we will be at and the name and phone number the teacher who will be our mentor.

Although I should be calling, I'm not. Well not yet at least. "Why?" you might ask. Because I have phone anxiety.

This may sound ridiculous because if you ever see me anywhere I am most likely on my phone, texting, taking a picture or on various social media sites. But when I say "phone anxiety" I don't mean that I get anxious using a phone, instead I get anxious when I need to make a phone call.

Not every phone call brings me anxiety. For example, I can call my mom, dad, sister, roommates, and a select few other friends and family members with great ease. But in a situation like today, I begin to feel incredibly overwhelmed with anxiety.

Only moments ago I told one of my roommates that I can't keep forgetting to call and that I really need to get this over with today. So I sat down, placed the paper in front of me and pulled my phone out of my pocket. And that very moment is when I began to get anxious. My palms got sweaty, my heart started racing and as dumb as this may sound, I even felt like I was about to cry. I felt so overwhelmed with anxiety and even felt panicked. I tried to calm myself down with a few slow, deep breaths, which helped but not enough.

I so badly wish that I could just pick up a phone and call anyone and everyone with ease and without any fear, but I can't. I wish I could just shake it off and get done what I know I must ultimately complete. But I can't. With shaky hands I attempt to type what I am currently feeling as a way to hopefully cope and find a way to just call. But I don't know how successful this is.

I guess, if this doesn't help me as much as I was hoping then maybe it will help someone else out there who can relate to how I am feeling and what it is like to have extreme anxiety when it comes to talking on the phone.

And unfortunately, now I actually have to go and call my mentor teacher and plan when I am going to go in and do my classroom observations. Wish me luck, and pray that I can actually get through this. It feels like I would have better luck climbing Mt. Everest right now.

Music Monday: Going Nowhere For Spring Break

Google Images
It is finally spring break for me and I couldn't be happier. However, I still have quite a bit of homework that I get to do during break. I have never been fortunate enough to go somewhere nice and warm for spring break, which is probably a good thing because I wouldn't get much homework done.. I'd just spend every waking minute at the beach.

Alright, enough beach and spring break talk and more music talk. Since it is March, I have a new monthly playlist on Spotify that you can check out here. And as always, all of the Music Monday songs are on my monthly playlist, as well as, my continuously growing Music Monday playlist that you can listen to and follow here.

Here are my Music Monday picks this week:

Google Images
1. Fix My Eyes by for King & Country

I love this song! Fun, upbeat, and a great message! "Love like I'm not scared, give when it's not fair". These are just some of the incredible lyrics in this song. Others include, "Fight for the weak ones, speak out for freedom". I feel like especially with all the craziness going on in the world, this is a really important reminder to lookout for those around us. I have seen for King & Country in concert and they are phenomenal live. If you ever get the chance, go see them! You won't be disappointed.

Google Images
2. Sun Goes Down by Robin Schulz ft. Jasmine Thompson

Of course, I have to throw a little dance music in here. I have no idea who Robin Schulz is, but I am a huge Jasmine Thompson fan. She does a lot of covers of songs on youtube and has become quite popular. She currently has 1 million subscribers and has over 135 million views on all her videos combined. She has an incredible voice and this song really helps show that her typical soft and melodic voice can transfer beautifully into the dance music scene. If you want to check out more music by Jasmine Thompson click here.

Google Images
3. Good Lovin by Ludacris ft. Miguel

Hip hop/rap is the type of genre that people either absolutely love or they don't like it at all. So often this type of music gets a bad rep because of their risque lyrics and how they demean women. But I think it is important to note that not all rap is like that. This song shows a softer side to this genre. I am honestly obsessed with the lyrics of this song. Trying to get over a break up isn't easy and Ludacris and Miguel really convey that.

Google Images
4. Fast In My Car by Paramore

Ahhh Paramore! It's about time you have joined us on Music Monday! Like I mentioned in a previous Music Monday post, Paramore is one of my favorite bands, EVER. I have been a huge fan since I was in 7th grade, way back in 2007. I know, that doesn't seem like it was very long ago, but it was 8 years ago! I don't have a particular reason for having this song on here, it's just been stuck in my head all week. I mean I guess there are the obvious reasons, like: 1. It's Paramore. 2. Hayley Williams (the lead singer). 3. Her voice. 4. It's Paramore. 5. The lyrics. 6. Hayley's hair, I'm obsessed. 7. Did I mention I'm a huge Paramore fan? I think that gets my point across.. :)

Google Images
5. Goodbye by Who Is Fancy

Who Is Fancy has been sweeping the internet. There are three music videos for this song that have three different individuals singing the song as if they were Who Is Fancy. Thus leaving us all with the question, "okay then, who is fancy?" Personally I don't really care. Just as long as they continue to make amazing music, they could be an yellow and orange striped hippopotamus from Neptune for all I care. Anyways, I really enjoy this song and I hope that you do too.

What are some of you favorite songs from this week? And do you have any spring break plans? Let me know in the comments below!

Music Monday: Noelle Goes Punk... Sort Of

Google Images

I'm not sure why, but I have been in a big Punk Goes Pop mood all week (albums of punk bands covering popular pop songs). It all started when I was paroozing the internet and came across a list of a few of the acts that will be performing at Warped Tour this summer. I had never heard of the bands on the list, so I decided to check them out. After listening to those few bands I was curious as to who else would be at Warped Tour this year. I went to their website and began to go down the lineup. There were definitely bands that I wasn't a fan of, but at the same time I found some bands that I really liked!

If you aren't into this genre of music, don't worry! Not all of my songs this week are punk, rock, or alternative.

Here are my picks for favorites songs this week, which can be found in my Music Monday playlist on Spotify:

1. Hey Baby, Here's That Song You Wanted by blessthefall
Google Images

First off, the title of this song. I just can't get over it. It is probably one of my favorite titles of a song, like ever. To those of you who are fans of the screamo genre, this is basically a household, common name. Blessthefall is a Christian-oriented screamo band, I know, you probably didn't think those existed. But they do. Although they are a screamo band, this song actually has no screaming in it. Which I kind of like, some screamo bands/songs kind of freak me out.

Google Images
2. The Haunting by Set It Off

If you are a fan of Panic! at the Disco, this band is perfect for you. Not identical but very similar in sound and vocals. I love this song because it has such a creepy sound to it. I don't know why, but every time I listen to this song I just picture a carnival or that creepy American Horror Story: Freak Show intro. Love this song, now to listen to more by Set It Off!

Google Images
3. My House by Pvris

Pvris, pronounced like Paris, is just plain good. They have a similar sound to that of Paramore but maybe a little edgier. But like I said before, they are just plain good. I recently heard of them because they are currently touring with Sleeping With Sirens and Pierce the Veil, whom you know I am big fans of. I decided to give them a listen and boy am I glad that I did. They may just be one of my new favorite bands!

Google Images
4. FourFiveSeconds by Rihanna, Kanye West, Paul McCartney

Wait, what? Rihanna, Kanye West, and Paul McCartney?! Probably the weirdest music compilation, but surprisingly enough I think it worked. Paul McCartney played guitar and wrote the song. And besides some minuscule background vocals, he doesn't sing. :'( The main vocals are done by Rihanna. She has such a unique voice and I love how it sounds particularly in this song. And then there is Kanye West. In all honesty, probably my least favorite part of this song. Not a huge fan of him as a person, like at all. However, at least he left the awful auto-tune at the door when making this track.

Google Images
5. Cassy O' by George Ezra

George Ezra is the newest installment of the ever growing British Invasion of the music industry. All I have to say is.. his voice. Wow. His most popular song is Budapest, which you may have heard on the radio. But personally, even though I love the song Budapest, Cassy O' is my favorite! At a mere 21 years old, I am so excited to see him take the world by storm. Honestly, Paul Revere was right, "The British are coming! The British are coming!!!" And I am totally okay with that. :)

Music Monday: On A Tuesday??

Google Images

Wait Music Monday, on a Tuesday???

Yup, sometimes life gets crazy and busy. Or you can just be straight up lazy (me about 73% of the time). And yet in my case I had a huge midterm exam (with a big essay question) that I had to study all day Monday for leaving not a lot of time for Music Monday. I did have time to obsess over some new songs. You can find the songs from this weeks Music Monday in my new Spotify playlist cleverly titled Music Monday.

Here are my 5 favorite songs from this week...

Google Images
1. Masterpiece by Jessie J

This is one of our cool-down songs in my Zumba class and I am so in love with it. This is basically your epic self-empowerment jam. I love that she says that she is "perfectly incomplete" and "still working on my masterpiece". She isn't perfect and she is okay with that and she is constantly working to be the best she can be but not striving for perfection. Such a great message, plus I think Jessie J's voice just sounds phenominal in this song.

Google Images
2. the words by Christina Perri

Christina recently released her music video for this song and I couldn't stop watching it. It is adorable! Not only is the video adorable but so is this song. Such a beautiful love song. Her voice, as always, is amazing and really brings a lot of emotion to this song. Christina is definitely one of my favorites!

3. Go Go Go by Sleeping With Sirens

Google Images
Ahhhh!! Where to even begin.. Well for starters, this definitely won't be the only Sleeping With Sirens song that will appear on my Music Monday posts. Sleeping With Sirens is by far my favorite band with Paramore and Parachute trailing closely behind. These guys are an absolute riot! Before even listening to any of their music I watched an interview they did and instantly fell in love. They are super laid back and take absolutely NOTHING seriously. After spending about a week watching any interviews with them that I could find, I figured I should probably listen to their music... I fell just as in love with their music as I had with the guys in the band. This song is from their upcoming album Madness which is coming out March 17th. And yes, I have already pre-ordered it.

Google Images
4. Enamel (A Tribute to Nina Dobrev) by The Ready Set

Alright, well as you can probably tell from the title this song is basically a parody song. No, it is not one of those strange and bizzarr ones like a Weird Al's song. But it is about trying to become a vampire like Elena Gilbert, Nina Dobrev's character on The CW show The Vampire Diaries. When I saw this song I thought it was going to be dumb, and maybe in a way it is, but I honestly can't get enough of it. I just love how it sounds. Plus, I am a huge fan of The Vampire Diaries so this is a pretty awesome song. Team Delena all day everyday!! :)

Google Images
5. R U Crazy by Conor Maynard

You may be wondering, who is this Conor Maynard kid?? And honestly, I have no idea. What I do know is that I am obsessed with this song! It is all about a girl who wants to get back together with him after they broke up. And as you can tell by the title he is not interested in getting back together.  "Hit the road Jack!" This is such a fun and catchy song. I guess I will have to listen to some of his other songs now, hopefully they are just as great as this one.

Music Monday: The First Of Many

Google Images

Like I mentioned in my About, music is something that is apart of nearly every moment of my day. As a result I am constantly looking for new artists and bands to obsess over. Whether the genre is rap, pop, indie, country or anything in between, I will probably love it. I recently began making monthly playlists on my Spotify (you can make an account for FREE!!) and it has been so fun to find old and new songs and artists and add them to each months playlist. In a way it is kind of like a music diary of sorts. Each month is different, I experience different things and my music sometimes expresses that. However, not every song in each playlist depicts something I am going through, some I just enjoy listening and dancing around the room to.

Since I have such a love for music, I thought it would be fun to share some of that with you. Every Monday I will pick 5 of my favorite songs from that week. I know music can be a tricky thing to share with people because people have such distinct tastes in music, but I hope that my wide range in musical taste can cater to many different people. Plus, you never know, just because a song isn't by an artist you would normally listen to or is from a genre you don't typically like it may surprise you. It might even become your new favorite jam! I mean you'll never know unless you listen to it.. Just saying :)

Alright so here are some of the songs that I have been really loving recently, all of which are from my February 2015 playlist on Spotify:

1. Infinity by AJR
Google Images
This song is just adorable! If you are looking for a cute love song, look no further, it's right here. My favorite lyrics are "Cross my heart and hope to die Since you came into my life My momma says to pick the best And you are it". Love, love, love! AJR is a fairly new band of 3 brothers and I am really rooting for them to do well out in the music industry! I think they are super talented. Also, is it just me or do they remind you of like a new Jonas Brothers?? *fingers crossed*

2. A Love Like War by All Time Low ft. Vic Fuentes
Google Images

For those who aren't fans of the bubblegum pop love songs there are songs like this. Except it's not really a love song.. Basically this song is about a more toxic relationship that is clearly not working anymore... "Heart's on fire tonight Feel my bones ignite Feels like war, war". This song is also quite a bit heavier, not heavy, but  definitely heavier that AJR's Infinity. I am a pretty big fan of both All Time Low and Pierce the Veil (the band Vic Fuentes is the lead singer of), so when I saw that they collaborated on a song I got really excited! I am basically in love with this song.. :)

3. Brother by NEEDTOBREATHE ft. Gavin DeGraw

Google Images
This song. I honestly don't even know where to begin. I love everything, everything about this song. NEEDTOBREATHE is amazing like always and Gavin DeGraw is such an amazing touch to an already great song! I could easily listen to this song all day long. If you like music you will probably like this song. It is amazing! In fact I listened to this song on repeat for like an hour the other day.

"Brother let me be your shelter
I'll never leave you all alone
I can be the one you call
When you're low"

4. Pray to God by Calvin Harris ft. Haim
Google Images
If you like fun, upbeat, dance music here is a new song to obsess over. You're welcome! :) First off Calvin Harris is not only gorgeous but really talented (in my opinion). Secondly, Haim is like the coolest girl group out there today. Actually they are really the only girl group I know of... Anyways, since these two are awesome on their own, a collaboration between them is destined to be amazing. And it is! "I lost the feeling but I try to hold on I thought the end of a love and what made you strong I pray to god, I just don't know anymore".

5. Jukebox (Life Goes On) by The Summer Set
Google Images

Sometimes it's just nice to get a reminder that things are going to be okay. And that is exactly what The Summer Set gives you with their song Jukebox (Life Goes On). This may be a kind of strange song to be in love with in the middle of February because it has a definite summer vibe to it. But who cares! It is a great song and who doesn't need a little dose of summer in the middle of a rough Minnesota winter.

"Life goes on
We got all night
If you got rock and roll
You're gonna be alright"

Actively Single

As we all know, today is the one and only Valentine's Day. The day when those in a relationship feel obligated to get their significant other something special and do something with them. It is also the day that those of us who aren't in a relationship dread because we don't have a significant other to spend the day with. I feel like this day brings about a sort of sadness over being single, as if being single is a bad thing. But why?

Personally I think being single is awesome! I mean hey, just think of all the money I will be saving myself this weekend. :)

Okay, now back to what I was meaning to talk about... So often being single is seen as a bad or unfortunate thing. But I don't see it like that, at least not anymore. Instead of just being single, I consider myself actively single. I know this sounds crazy, weird and kind of stupid, but just hear me out. By being actively single, I am wanting to be single. No guilt, shame or dread about wishing for a relationship. It is basically just a new mindset on being single. I am proud of being single and am enjoying every moment surrounded by my friends.

Have you ever been out for a walk, seeing a couple being super cute and couply? You instantly get jealous of them and wish you had that. As much as I may still desire to have a relationship like that someday, I am changing my mindset to be content with where I am in my life right this moment. No more wishing I had what other people had, because I have exactly what I need right now and that is enough for me.

By being actively single I am not on a search for a relationship. I'm single, and not going to mingle. Honestly the key to all of this is that I am choosing to be single. So no, I don't want you to set me up with your cousin who has a "great personality". Just because I am single does not make me "on the market". I think it is totally fine to be single and be completely content with that and not feeling obligated to go out and find a significant other.

This may seem like a rambling mess, but it is what I have been thinking about for the past few days. Two of my roommates have boyfriends so I am around couples often. My other roommate and I are the last two single girls in our apartment and we are trying to be completely content and happy with being single.

So for all you single guys and gals out there, stop thinking that you are losing or that you are missing out. Be proud of being single and don't feel bad.

Love Always,
